Journalists Descend on Sun Valley & Ketchum In February

Sun Valley/Ketchum saw an influx of journalists during February, with visits from 12 writers from across the country.

The Sun Valley Resort hosted writers from SKI, Powder, Entrée, and Australian Gourmet Traveller. The CVB assisted with itineraries and meals for the journalists. NW Flyfishing Magazine and two freelance ski journalists, who write for LA Magazine Group, and familyskitrips.com, visited as well. These visits will result in large stories about Sun Valley/Ketchum during the winter season of 2009/10.

In addition, the CVB, Sun Valley Resort, and Blaine County Rec District teamed up to host a Nordic Ski Fam (familerization tour) with four of the top Nordic ski journalists in the country. Don Portman from SkiTrax, Laura Stavoe from Horizon and Sunset, Ron Bergin from Cross Country Skier, and Jonathan Weisel from CrossCountrySkiFun.com spent three days skiing at Galena Lodge and Sun Valley Resort, as well as learning about the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation, meeting local ski enthusiasts, and spending time shopping and dining in the area. 

“Hosting journalists on media visits to our area is just one of the many public relations strategies we use to expand targeted coverage on our destination,” commented Bronwyn Patterson, Public Relations Manager with the CVB. “Each year we receive over $1,000,000 in print, online and broadcast media coverage which provides us with a huge return on investment for our pr efforts.”

The CVB hosts journalists throughout the year and is currently putting together summer trips for several outdoor publications.
