Bald Mountain Hiking and Biking

During the summer, the world famous mountain is open to sightseers and adventurers, whether you want a relaxing day among the wildflowers, or a challenging journey through the rugged beauty of Idaho's wilderness. Baldy, as it is affectionately called, offers nearly 28 miles of hiking and biking  trails. Feel free to tackle the trails yourself, or take along an expert guide to point out all the little things that make the Bald Mountain experience so unique.

Bald Mountain Trail

From the top of the mountain you can hike down the Bald Mountain Trail (4.5 miles, 1 hour and 45 minutes). Or, hike up the trail (2 - 3 hours) and ride the lift down.

Other Hikes: Seattle Ridge via Bowl Lane (1.6 miles, 35 minutes); Round House via Bald Mountain Trail and Round House Lane (1.8 miles, 45 minutes).

The Bald Mountain Trail is one-way going uphill for mountain bikers. Hiking on Bald Mountain service roads is allowed, but can be dusty due to passing mountain vehicles.

A new five-mile trail system surrounding Sun Valley’s new nine hole golf course is now open to all hikers and mountain bikers. The project is a joint effort by Sun Valley Resort, Big Wood Backcountry Trails and the International Mountain Bicycling Association.

The multi-use, all level trail system was built in the spring and early summer of 2007 by a five-member crew working with a mini-dozer and mini-excavator.  A name for the new trail has not yet been decided.

Three access points are located across from the Sun Valley Lodge entrance, behind the existing golf course clubhouse parking lot and across from the new golf course clubhouse site. The trail system is maintained by the Sun Valley Resort.
